Theatre Arts

Our God is a God of Beauty and at Pella Christian High School, we seek to redeem the arts for Christ and reflect God’s truth, beauty, and goodness in the art that we create.  We believe we can use these God-given gifts and talents as an act of worship to glorify Him in all we do. (Colossians 3:23). We seek to represent accurately the good and evil in our world, the beauty of the world we live in, and its need for redemption.

Engaging in theatre arts at PCHS offers students the opportunity to critique the characters, situations, and stories they examine...and to find themselves in the characters they portray.  Theatre for the Kingdom of God is not an opportunity for escapism from the real world, but a redemptive process through which an actor may find his own strengths and weaknesses, and therefore his place in the narrative of grace.  By reading, memorizing, and performing diverse works, students will encounter the various worldviews, motivations, and psyches of their characters and balance them against a Biblical worldview. This careful examination will not only foster a greater understanding of the world they live in but also a Christian’s role in that place…and in the process create a richer, more developed dramatic representation of that character.

Pella Christian’s Speech Team will perform a cutting from the powerful new drama, The Women of Lockerbie, for their Large Group one-act entry with the Iowa High School Speech Association. This contemporary piece is set in the hills of Lockerbie, Scotland where a couple from New Jersey--looking for their son's remains that were lost in the crash of Pan Am 103--meet the women of Lockerbie who are determined to convert an act of hatred into an act of love all the while interacting with rigid government representatives. It is an exploration of how love changes grief over time. District competition begins January 21, 2023 with the annual All-City Home Benefit held at PCHS this year on January 26, 2023.
